Mersive Solstice

Employee Spotlight: Meet Katie Jackson, Front End Software Engineer

3 min read

Here at Mersive, we’ve dedicated ourselves to making the workplace more engaging and productive by developing revolutionary wireless collaboration software, Solstice, and accompanying meeting analytics software, Kepler. These innovative products were designed thanks to the dedication and pioneering spirit of Mersive team members. Learn more, first-hand, about life at Mersive from the people who work tirelessly to change how the world meets.

Meet Katie! Katie and the team of front end software engineers support the development and look of Kepler, Mersive’s cloud-based meeting room monitoring and analytics solution.

What is your role at Mersive and what do you do?
I am a Front End Software Engineer on the Kepler Team.

I work on our SaaS platform that displays the analytics and metrics for all Pods in a given organization. Anything you can interact with, click on, or see in Kepler is what my team and I work on from a day-to-day basis. It’s so fun to be a part of a small team that is building new features our customers have directly requested.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Mersive, whose job would you want?
Anyone on the marketing and sales team that works with customers directly. As an engineer, I don’t usually get to experience how what we are building affects our customers, or why they are excited about our product. Recently, I was able to attend the first annual Mersive Customer Council and enjoyed listening to direct feedback from customers. It was gratifying to see what users think about our product and how excited they get when they hear about some of the new features that are being developed.

People would be surprised if they knew what about you?
I own over 50 pairs of sunglasses.

What did you want to be when growing up?
A professional athlete. At different points in my childhood, it changed from soccer to basketball to volleyball. I was convinced I was going to be in the Olympics for one of those sports.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Traveling, snowboarding, golfing, brewery and distillery hopping, attending concerts, playing with other people’s dogs… I’m also trying to make rollerblading cool again.

Where have you lived?

New Hampshire

Athens, Greece

Colorado

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
AI and machine learning, in general. Self-driving cars are pretty cool, but I’ve seen the first-hand transformation of the education which I think is so important. I previously worked for an education company that was doing some cool work with modernizing education. I remember walking to class with eight different 500-page textbooks and taking notes in a separate notebook for each class. Now the books are digitized allowing for notetaking and highlighting directly in the product while also using AI to cater to specific learning styles. I wish that were around when I was in college!

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Invest all your graduation money into Netflix stock. You don’t need that nice pair of sunglasses.

Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster?
Tiny elephant. People love those tiny little teapot pigs. Can you imagine the craze a tiny elephant would create?

What advice do you have for prospective Mersive candidates?
Be open to a changing environment and be ready to bring great ideas. Our technology is changing so fast that our teams have to be prepared to adjust. I love that everyone here is so open minded and anyone’s opinion or ideas will be listened to and taken into account when making big decisions.

What are your hopes for our industry?
Mersive software as a standard in every TV, projector, or presentation tool just like Netflix and Hulu are on all smart TVs.

What is your favorite perk at Mersive?
Outside work events as a company! My favorite this year was the company ski day. We happened to go during the Bomb Cyclone and had powder and fresh tracks all day! Sometimes it’s so easy to immerse yourself in work that you forget that we work with some really fun and amazing people outside of your department.
