How did we function before WiFi and smart phones?


Before we could access any piece of information, instantly, from anywhere? Before we could simply text someone to let them know we were running late, or browse the internet while waiting somewhere?

We’ve become so accustomed to infinite information and connection that it would be nearly impossible to, as a culture, revert to technology even a few years old. Yet, we did not understand how much this age of information would change our lives until we began to live it. Even though using an app on my phone to navigate a route with real-time updates on traffic, construction, and weather was only a few years away, we never even considered that as a future possibility as we waited for our MapQuest directions to finish printing.

We often do not see a problem if we cannot imagine a solution.


If you are asked about your company’s solution for teleconferencing, you probably know the answer. Maybe you use Skype for Business or GoToMeeting for voice and video conferencing, and maybe you have strong opinions on the quality of your current solution, but you still understand the problem that is being solved. Content, in the form of spreadsheets, designs, or images, guides modern meeting culture. We have established that meetings are more efficient and more decisive conclusions are reached when attendees can see the data. A design review goes much faster if everyone can see the content in question and changes can be made in real time. Even if you are currently using a screen sharing software that gives other participants a live look at what is on your computer, you may not understand what true content collaboration can be until you’ve experienced Solstice Multi-Room. In the way that anyone on an open conference call may speak up and share their thoughts at any time, anyone in a non-moderated Multi-Room session may share content from their device to the shared display, either as the meeting focus or side-by-side with content from other participants. There is no downtime while the current presenter transfers control, no waiting for someone’s emailed content to arrive in the inbox of the current presenter, or describing of the content on the screen to a remote attendee – just a meeting that incorporates content as fluidly and completely as voice or video.

Q: Is special hardware required? 
A: No special/additional hardware is required. Solstice Multi-Room runs on existing Solstice Pods with Enterprise Edition on version 3.0 or later (Gen1 Pod hardware excluded).

Q: What does it cost? 
A: Multi-Room is included in the 3.0 Enterprise Version. Pods that have current software maintenance can update to Multi-Room capability by updating to 3.0. Enterprise Pods whose maintenance has expired will need to purchase updated maintenance to have access to the 3.0 version of the software. Maintenance is 20% of the purchase price paid annually.

Q: Is Multi-Room compatible with all client platforms (Windows, OSX, Android, and iOS)? 
A: Yes. Users can connect to a Multi-Room session using any Solstice client on any of the supported platforms.

Q: How does Solstice Multi-Room work with my existing Web Conferencing infrastructure? 
A: Solstice provides support for third party voice solutions including web conferencing, audio-bridges, and cellphones. Users put dial-in information into the Solstice client allowing other participants to see and connect to conference audio. For example, by adding a WebEx link and PIN in the Solstice client, a content-centric meeting across multiple locations can leverage WebEx for voice and Solstice for multi-threaded content collaboration.

Q: I want to schedule a regularly occurring meeting using a calendar invite. Can I do that with Multi-Room? 
A: Yes. We recommend that you include the name of the Multi-Room session that you will create in the invite on your calendar so that users know what session to look for in their client at the time of the meeting. The Solstice client will recognize a commonly-used session name and ‘autofill’ it every time you want to start the meeting. Then, participants that have the meeting on their calendars can launch their Solstice client at the appropriate time, look for the Session name in the client discovery panel, and click to join.
